Graaff-Reinet Airport has very little air traffic and no air control. You won't have much interference on the radio or wait long for other aeroplanes to take off. This ensures the maximum training time for each student. The airfield is surrounded by a game reserve and on a typical morning's training you will see ostriches, kudu, maybe a herd of buffalo and springbok, zebra, gemsbuck and many more game species.

Microlight (Ultra Light) courses are normally presented in 25-hour packets - 10 hours dual and 15 hours solo (including 5 hours cross-country) are the minimum hours required by the CAA to complete a license. All people differ in their ability to learn, and therefore some pilots are unable to complete the course in 25 hours - especially when they interrupt their course often or only do their training at weekends. However, 25 hours is the base to work from to derive the cost. Some pilots with previous flight experience may need fewer than 10 dual hours.

Each student receives individual attention and the course is tailor-made for specific needs, e.g. a farmer will receive different training and will be assisted with the planning of the airstrip on his farm and do a lot more low flying exercises.

All students will be comfortable to talk on the radio using the correct procedures, do 45/90 degree cross-wind take-offs & landings, do small airstrip landings, pre-cautionery landings in about all weather conditions. Learn how to execute a safe emergency landing, rig and de-rig an aircraft, and how to do basic aircraft maintenance. The student will be able to plan cross-country flights anywhere in South Africa, will be able to judge weather conditions accurately, and be able to land safely on any surface.
